The Scientific Inquiry into God is Sanatana Hindutva— Arvind Sisodia
The Scientific Inquiry into God is Sanatana Hindutva — Arvind Sisodia
1- India’s extremely ancient culture and its rich knowledge are not opposed to modern scientific thought. In fact, it is a tradition of science that has reached far beyond the present limits of modern science.
2- Sanatana, which is presently also known as Hindu or Hindutva, is fundamentally a tradition of the search for Truth. Millions and billions of generations have been engaged in this search for Truth, and this continuous journey still exists today.
3- Modern science also holds that the Earth came into existence approximately 2 billion years ago, after which a process of natural development took place upon it. Through eighty-four lakh (8.4 million) types of bodies, this “natural world” is functioning in all its diversity.
4- The inhabitants of this Earth have attained the highest levels of development and prosperity many times, and have subsequently perished as well. This cycle of development, achievement and destruction has occurred hundreds of times.
5- Spirituality too is the highest state and knowledge of science. Some of those who are influential in science today regard spirituality as false or imaginary; however, in the time to come, that same science will accept its truth.
6- The beliefs in one God and in many gods are not opposed to each other; rather, both are true. It is a very simple and reasonable fact that there is one power governing this universe.
However, as soon as we consider the functioning, resources and systems through which that power operates, the concept of the existence of multiple gods becomes natural to accept.
For example, there is one Collector, but under the Collector, thousands of employees work in different categories to carry out various administrative functions. In the same way, God, the gods and goddesses, and other divine manifestations are different forms and functioning powers within one व्यापक divine order.
Diversity itself is an inquiry into God
It is also very clear that God loves diversity. That is why this diverse universe exists. Otherwise, a single cosmic entity already existed even before this creation.
7- God Himself is the creator of science.
Among the diverse types of bodies created in this laboratory of God, human beings have attained the highest position.
Human beings are the ones searching for God. In India, along with the search for God, a tradition of searching for the Self also developed, which came to be known as spirituality.
8- Infinite processes are continuously taking place within God’s order. Each process is precise and dependent upon the behavior and actions of one another. Human beings continuously strive to know and understand them.
However, the understanding inherent in the divine order is billions and trillions of times greater, and its entirety lies even beyond the grasp of the human mind.
9- Beyond human capacity, the universe contains unlimited knowledge, science and possibilities for research. Therefore, some scientists accept that Supreme Existence, while others reject it. But God is not affected by whether human beings accept or reject Him.
Sanatana ultimately says this: it may be so, and it may also not be so. In other words, in the search for Truth, there must always remain room for curiosity and possibilities.
10- Sanatana establishes two fundamental principles.
First—the Divine desires love. The greatest wealth of the soul is love and affection.
Second—the future is determined according to one’s actions. In other words, deliberately committing injustice, wrongdoing or insulting another person is not pleasing to God, and one must face the consequences of such actions.
11- God wishes us to live peacefully, to live and let others live. Rather than merely searching for Him, know yourself and discipline yourself.
God is the Lord of the world; do not consider yourself its master. If you regard yourself as a servant, you will be happy.
This is the fundamental spirit of Sanatana—the search for Truth, the search for the Self, love, discipline, and respect for all existence.
